JUNCTIONAL ARRHYTHMIA

junctional arrythmia

• AV junction consists of the compact AV node and transitional cell zone (connecting AV node to atrial myocardium).
• Junctional arrhythmias arise from the following mechanisms:
Premature junctional beat (e.g. premature junctional beat and junctional geminy)
Junctional escape beat (e.g. junctional escape beat or rhythm)
Tachycardic junctional ectopic beat (e.g. junctional tachycardia)
   Reentry (e.g. AVNRT)
   Block (e.g. AV block)
• Examples of junctional arrhythmias are listed below.

normal
normal sinus rhythm

premature
premature junctional contraction
junctional bigeminy

escape
junctional escape beat
junctional escape rhythm

tachycardia
junctional tachycardia
nonparoxysmal junctional tachycardia (NPJT)

reentry
typical AVNRT
atypical AVNRT

block
first degree AV block
type I (wenckebach) second degree AV block
type II second degree AV block
fixed 2:1 AV block
high grade AV block
third degree AV block + junctional escape
third degree AV block + ventricular escape
