ESCAPE


• An escape beat arises when there is a transient sinus pause (sinus node can’t send out electrical impulse temporarily), an automaticity focus either from the atria, AV junction, or ventricles takes over temporarily and sends out its own electrical impulses.
• An escape rhythm arises when there is a sinus arrest (SA node can’t send out impulse for a long period of time), an automaticity focus either from the atria, AV junction, or ventricles takes over for long period of time and sends out its own impulses at its inherent rate.
